Blethen, Gage & Krause is honored to announce that Kevin Velasquez has been selected by the Greater Mankato Growth Young Professionals as the 2014 Young Professional of the Year.    This honor is awarded to an individual with a demonstrated commitment to the greater Mankato area through civic and business involvement, especially during the past year.  Recipients of this award have demonstrated unwavering commitment to the community through involvement with local organizations that elevate both the overall quality of life in in the Mankato area and Mankato’s ability to attract and retain young talent.  Congratulations on this prestigious honor Kevin!!

Kevin has always set himself apart from others through his professional and community involvement, commitment and exemplary performance.  After Kevin graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa, College of Law in 2007, he quickly became  involved in numerous professional associations.  He has served as the President of the  Minnesota State Bar Association Sixth District (serving as Sixth District President in 2012), and has been active in the Federal Bar Association, the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute and the Greater Mankato Growth Young Professionals.   Kevin has volunteered time for the Federal Bar Association Pro Se Project, Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, and LegalCorps, helping low-income individuals with their legal needs.

Additionally, Kevin has worked hard to give back to the region through his extensive involvement in community organizations.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Mankato YWCA for the last five years.  He is currently the chair of the Mankato United Way’s Enhancing the Lives of People with Disabilities Community Impact Team.  He is actively involved in the Mankato Sertoma Club, a local service organization with a primary mission of improving life for those affected by hearing loss, serving as the organization’s President.   Kevin has also been involved with the Mankato Diversity Council as a classroom facilitator.  As a classroom facilitator, Kevin goes into the local schools to present a lesson to the students, from kindergarteners to seniors in high school, on various topics related to diversity, respect, and acceptance.
